Elementary

Elementary Program (3 years through fourth grade)

Our elementary classes are designated along 2-3 year division lines such
that we have the following classes: Pre-K/Kindergarten, 1st/2nd grades and
3rd/4th grades. Each class has either one teacher or a teaching team of 2
people (Note: we greatly endeavor to assure that our Pre-K/Kindergarten
teacher is the same teacher or teaching team every Sunday for the entire
school year. This requirement works best for children under the age of five.

We utilize the Hands-On Bible Curriculum from Group Publishing. This particular curriculum employs the use of stimuli from all three learning groups: visual, auditory and kinesthetic. It has proven to be an over-whelming success with both teachers and students alike!

We have also established a list of “minimum requirements” that we strongly
encourage each child to carry with them beyond their two years spent in each class. The elementary list is as follows:

Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten:
The Lord’s Prayer
John 3:16

1st/2nd Grade:
Books of the Bible (Old Testament)
The Ten Commandments
Basic Bible Navigational Skills*

3rd/4th Grade:
Books of the Bible (Old and New Testament)
23rd Psalm
Continued Bible Navigational Skills*

*Children receive their own personal Bible from the church in first grade
during Bible Presentations on Reformation Sunday.

Junior High

Junior High Program (fifth through eighth grades)

Our junior high classes are divided into to two separate groups: the 5th/6th grades and the 7th/8th grades (Confirmation). The 5th/6th grade class has a teaching team of 2 teachers that alternate teaching stints with the sessions of our Adult Discussion Groups - that is, they each teach for 6-8 consecutive Sundays before switching. The 7th/8th grade class has a single, dedicated teacher that is not one of the primary Confirmation Program leaders.

Currently, we do not utilize a standardized curriculum for either class. We
have very dedicated teachers who, through the use of resources obtained from Group Publishing, Augsburg Fortress, Christian Book Distributors and others, develop their own complete lesson plans. These plans are designed to not only connect Biblical Truths with the pre-teenager at his or her own daily level, but to also instill in them a number of additives to our “minimum requirements” listing that would, prayerfully, become part of their pre-teen lives! These additives include:

5th/6th Grade
The Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20)
The Apostle’s Creed
The Sacraments and their meaning
Mastery of Bible Navigational Skills

7th/8th Grade (Confirmation)
Church History/Reformation/Martin Luther
Personal Bible study habits*
Solidification of all previously learned skills/requirements

*Junior High Youth receive an NIV Teen Study Bible from the church in
seventh grade during Bible Presentations on Reformation Sunday.

Senior High

Senior High Program (ninth through twelfth grades)

We have one class for the senior high which includes everyone in the 9th
through 12th grades. They meet in our Youth Room in a very casual atmosphere and are led by a different adult for each 6-8 week session. The session schedule coincides directly with that of our Adult Discussion Groups and varies by semester according to the public school calendar. No formal or standardized high school curriculum is utilized, and the session topics range from Biblical and religious studies to Faith applications and have even included some service projects and/or off-site activities. Our current line-up of sessions/topics for this school year is as follows:

Coming Soon!!!!

The preface says, "The truth is that God does have a word for people that can guide and bring meaning to their daily routines. The trick is knowing how to listen for that word" and that’s exactly what we’ll be looking at: how we can listen and act on God's word after we leave church on Sundays. How do we keep the Spirit going in our every day lives? It seems that the farther away we get from the church building the less we are even aware of God's plan for us. Yet, the building is not the real church of God, we are! Why is it that our best intentions to stay focused on God fades so fast Sunday afternoon when we leave the building? Come and explore how to keep focus on our spiritual lives throughout the week and wherever we go!

You are welcome to join us on any Sunday morning as we maintain an “open door policy” at any point in any session.
